SATEL-TR489 combines multiple radio technologies in a compact transceiver module for embedded OEM applications. The United States and Canada variants can switch between licensed 403–473 MHz narrowband operation and the license-free 902–928 MHz ISM band, allowing one hardware platform to support different radio networks and deployment requirements.

On 400 MHz, the module supports SATEL 4FSK, 8FSK and 16FSK modes with selectable channel widths, forward error correction, addressing, repeater operation and channel lists. On 900 MHz, it uses frequency hopping with selectable bands, patterns, channels and zones. Compatibility modes support interoperability with established SATEL products and selected third-party radio protocols on the corresponding frequency band.

The RF-shielded PCB is intended for integration into battery-powered and space-constrained host equipment. Configuration and firmware management are available through SATEL NETCO DEVICE, SATEL Configuration Manager and SL commands. The SATEL-B2 motherboard can add power regulation, RS-232 connectivity and alternative mounting arrangements.
